There was no shortage of blazing techno to be thankful for this past Thanksgiving Eve, as Verboten was the home to a feast of top-notch tunes courtesy of wAFF’s debut performance in New York.

With key releases on labels like Hot Creations and Cocoon over the past few years, the British DJ/producer has made a name for himself with his pulsing rhythms and quirky productions. However, his first turn in front of the spinning Verboten disco ball took more of its cues from his crushing VibrationZ EP on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode from earlier this year.

From his first moments on the decks, wAFF kept it high-energy with a relentless assault of throbbing techno bombs like the Just2 Remix of Jeremy Bass & Dany Depp “It’s Showtime.” The brilliant two-hour set didn’t skimp on groovy moments, however, with more house-centric cuts (MrGreen & Dav Motta’s “Warning” and Montel’s “Jumpin”) keeping the dancefloor shuffling from start until finish.

wAFF wasn’t the only one making his debut at Verboten that night, as NYC staples The Martinez Brothers took to the decks right after for their first-ever performance at the Williamsburg club. As the America’s Best DJ 2015-nominated siblings always do, they delivered piping hot beats in spades. The highlight? A breezy throwback to Boris’ evergreen Musical Mix of the Moloko classic “Sing It Back.”
