Anaheim, Calif. – Today was the first day of NAMM 2020, and though DJ Times had more than a dozen meetings with major manufacturers and saw all kinds of products for club, mobile and studio applications, a few things stood out for DJs and music-makers at the annual gearfest.
Our NAMM 2020 coverage begins at a press conference where Pioneer DJ debuted its DJM-V10, a club mixer with a whopping six channels and every performance feature you can imagine, with particularly strong support for off-board effects. Pioneer also showed off the relatively new XDJ-XZ, a powerful all-in-one performance system with a color touch screen and support for both rekordbox and Serato.
Chauvet DJ showed its new GigBAR Move system. With moving heads, stand, case and foot controller, at around $800 it seems like the perfect lighting solution for a variety of mobile gigs.
A 5-in-1 lighting system that includes moving heads, derbies, washes, a laser and strobe effect pre-mounted on a single bar — GigBAR Move enables a complete light show from a single system that includes a tripod, wireless footswitch and free carry bags to ensure quick setup.
The moving heads have separate color and gobo wheels, and Totem Mode keeps them focused on the dancefloor. Built-in UV LEDs make fluorescent objects pop. You can control GigBAR Move with stand-alone control, DMX, wireless IRC-6 remote or wireless footswitch options are all on board. And it’s compatible with GigBAR 2 in master/slave mode.
On the studio side, Universal Audio debuted Luna, its new “recording system” – I’ll just call it a DAW – that’ll soon be free for users of various UA audio interfaces, for which it offers special support.
There are plenty of educational seminars too. “New Technology in Lighting Design” featured industry insiders discussing the new opportunities and unique challenges that new technology presents to lighting designers.
“The Future of Game Audio: Music and Sound Design for Mobile Gaming” explored the tools & techniques specific to mobile gaming and the landscape of opportunity for audio developers, musicians and sound designers. It was sponsored by A3E — a company that produces advanced audio apps and new music technology.
Of course, Testa Communications – publisher of DJ Times –is there with a dedicated exhibition booth (#10381). It’s also producing Convention TV @ NAMM, which is providing on-the-spot show coverage.
