Kevin Ramaley of Rockin’ Ramaley in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, has been attending the DJ Expo since 2007. Like many DJs, he gets plenty of inspiration and information from the seminars and workshops.
But he also gets money-making ideas from the exhibitor show floor — this year it was jammed with more than 85 companies.
“Nothing surpasses the ideas I get when I attend the Expo each year,” says Ramaley, whose multi-op offers event planning, lighting, photo booths, special effects and cigar bar services. “Just walking the Expo floor and seeing how the exhibitors’ booths are set up gives me ideas — from trussing, lighting, to the way they mount their TVs and more.”
Based off of the show floor booths he saw one year, Ramaley completely transformed his bridal show booth.
“We built a 15 x 20 -foot booth that had the Chauvet LED DMX curtain hanging on three sides. This gave us the ability to have an ‘enclosed’ booth at our bridal shows. Inside, we built a mini venue complete with dancefloor, monogram light on the dancefloor, cake table, pin spotted, sweetheart table, TV with slideshow and a photo booth. This gave our couples a complete sense of our offerings. From that one idea we bought all the trussing at the show as well as the LED curtains.”
Ramaley said he attends to learn about the new technology that is available to enhance my product offering,” who said he usually purchases one or two new items each year.
The two most significant Expo purchases that Ramaley made was the Open Air photo booth, the RCF Evox 12 system, and two Chauvet DJ Intimidator Spot Duo 155s.
“We purchased the Open Air photo booth in 2010, when photo booths were first becoming a popular request at events. We had already had one in inventory, but we purchased two more at the Expo. Being able to book multiple events increased our sales, brand and company sustainability over the past 9 years.”
The RCF Evox 12 speakers and Spot Duo lighting allowed Ramaley’s team to set up faster. “It offered the best quality of sound and lighting, and it gave our customers a more modern, sleek look at their events. The variety of options the four moving heads provided gave us the ability to deliver unsurpassed services to our customers.”
Overall, Ramaley calls them “huge investments that paid off greatly.”
