When the coronavirus shut us down, clubs and festivals ceased, and everyone was essentially forced inside with no definitive end in sight, DJ Times wondered: How is our tribe coping? How are DJs getting by? So, we sent out our “Coronavirus Questionnaire” to DJ/producers from all musical genres to find out.
During the crisis, DJ Times will be presenting the questionnaire responses from talented music-makers from all over the world. Here’s our latest installment, this time from Southern California, the Canadian EDM duo Loud Luxury (aka Andrew Fedyck and Joe De Pace).
What’s it like where you are? Andrew: We are currently in L.A. Being in what is one of the busiest cities in the world while no one is going outside is strangely calming. Although we miss the road, we are spending most of our time in the studio and ready to come back stronger.
What income-producing work have you lost? Joe: All of our shows are cancelled until further notice, which is disappointing financially, for sure. More importantly, we feel for our fans and all of the exciting shows we were blessed to be involved with. We had some incredible shows planned, but we will make it up to everyone once everything blows over.
Are you doing anything now that can or will produce music-related income? Andrew: Fortunately, we still have streaming and money coming from our music that helps.
What are you doing now that’s ultimately constructive to your music life/career? Joe: Beyond working on music, taking this time to also get healthy, exercise and meditate. I have started taking up oil painting as a hobby… just anything to keep the ideas flowing. We are trying to make sure that we can keep doing what we’re doing for a very long time.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve realized during this period of social distancing? Andrew: How much I enjoy snacking when at home all day. Joe: I am not as bad of a cook as I thought.
Have you done anything online? Andrew: We’ve done some, like our Beyond Boredom set, plus the Armada Unites Live Stream, the Room Service Festival, and the Beyond Wonderland Virtual Rave-A-Thon.
Any theme tunes recommended for the moment? Joe: Prince’s “1999.” Even if it’s from our home, you can’t stop a good time.
Any advice on staying sane & relatively positive through this situation? Joe: This is a great opportunity to do that thing you’ve always wanted to do, but never had enough time to. Make the most of it.
