Irishman Marcus Lambkin, better known as Shit Robot, has a new single titled “Where It’s At” coming out on April 27th via DFA records. A limited 100-press white-label vinyl is available for pre-order now, ahead of the green-label edition 12″ vinyl and digital release.
The track features vocals by Reggie Watts, a comedian who you might recognize from the Comedy Central stand-up special Why Shit So Crazy?, the Comedy Bang! Bang! series on IFC, or as the bandleader on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
“Where It’s At” was mixed by Mr. DFA himself, James Murphy, who Shit Robot tells us played a large part in the production of his first album. The new single is much darker and grittier than earlier collaborations between Shit Robot and Reggie Watts, “The Secret” and “We Got A Love,” both of which appear on Shit Robot’s 2014 LP We Got A Love.
In “Where It’s At,” Watts drops ominous narrations atop a warm pan-asia of synths while using the trademark surrealist diction found throughout most of his comedic work. Eventually the track opens up, the synths begin to show their teeth, and Watts starts to croon just below the surface about all that you’re missing out on. Johnny Aux’s remix grabs the original mix and rubs it down with a Chicago House style groove that’s crunchy in all the right places, with ample bass to grab any booty and put it through its paces.
