Anaheim, Calif. –Most of the M.I. Market—including major music industry manufacturers, distributors and retailers—is convening at the Anaheim Convention Center through Sunday (Jan. 25) at the world’s largest trade-only event—the annual Winter NAMM show. More than 90,000 attendees are expected and, as usual, the DJ segment of the market—including lighting, studio and accessory gear—will see plenty of product debuts. Also, Testa Communications—publisher of DJ Times—is there with a dedicated exhibition booth. It’s also producing Convention TV @ NAMM, which is providing on-the-spot show coverage.
Onto the Showfloor: In the lighting sector, L.A.-based manufacturer ADJ has several new items: Inno Pocket Wash mini moving head fixture; Inno Pocket Spot Twins moving heads on a mounting bar; and the Zipper effect light with four barrel mirrors, 8-watt LEDs and 16 built-in lightshows.
Related companies DuraTruss and Elation Lighting have some new products as well. DuraTruss will show its DT-3900L tripod crank stand used to securely hang aluminum truss and lighting fixtures. Elation is showing its Sniper hybrid beam, scanner and laser simulator, plus the Protron 3K high-power LED strobe.
Blizzard Lighting is showing: the Lil’ G mini moving spot head; LB HEX 12*15-watt, 6-in-1 LED unit (RGBAW+UV); and the LB Quad RGBW/RGBA 12*10-watt 4-in-1 LED unit. Chauvet DJ offers a handful of new items. They include: SlimBEAM QUAD IRC wall accent/effect light; Intimidator Spot Duo 150 dual moving head unit; EZwash Hex Pack battery-powered mini-LED washes; and the GigBAR IRC complete lightshow in one unit.
Cosmic Truss, from German Lighting Products, is showing a shorter and lighter version of the TV Mount, compatible with F34 and F44 truss systems, plus the U-Torm flexible solution to the problem of suspending drop fixtures and finding tormentor positions.
From the studio and recording world, Roland is showing its new 7X7-TR8 Drum Machine Expansion—with sounds from the TR-707 and TR-727 Rhythm Composers—for the TR-8 Rhythm Performer. PreSonus is showing the USB 2.0 bus-powered AudioBox iOne audio interface and AudioBox iTwo audio/MIDI interface for Mac, Windows and Apple iPad. Steinberg is showing its new Cubase Pro 8 DAW, Cubase Artist 8 DAW and the UR12 USB audio interface.
Studio-software maker iZotope is showing the Ozone 6 mastering platform and the Iris 2, a visual instrument that combines the power of a sampler with the flexibility of a modular synth. Apogee Digital is showing its new Ensemble 30×34 Thunderbolt 2 Audio Interface for Mac. Novation is introducing its Audiohub 2×4 USB interface with “Focusrite sound inside.”
Accessories and Other Products: GoPro is introducing HERO4, its highest performance line of capture devices, which includes the Black and Silver models. Case-maker Grundorf is debuting its Plastic Front DJ Façade, which will allow jocks to achieve a clean, streamlined appearance. UDG, distributed by Mixware, is offering two Urbanite MIDI Controller backpack models, Creator Pioneer RMX-500 Hardcase, Creator DIGI Hardcase, and DIGI Headphone bag.
