New York City – After being voted America’s Best DJ 2018, Markus Schulz received the spoils of victory at Marquee New York this past Friday, Nov. 30.
Just before launching into his set before a packed Marquee crowd, Schulz was awarded the golden Pioneer DJ DJM-900NXS2 mixer – the trophy that represents the winner of DJ Times magazine’s annual fan vote. It was an unprecedented third title for the Miami-based DJ/producer.
“Receiving this news is such an incredible honor,” said Schulz. “I have never been in this industry for the sole purpose of winning awards, and my biggest accomplishment in life is having the ability to connect and entertain those who believe in me, and it’s what I do on a daily basis. I take absolutely none of this for granted, and I count my lucky stars every day that I am able to do what I love for a living.”
The America’s Best DJ fan vote was conducted this past summer, running Memorial Day to Labor Day, and was supported by club and festival tour stops in major markets like Detroit (Movement Festival), Denver (Global Dance Festival), Baltimore (Moonrise Festival), Philadelphia (District N9NE club) and New York (Schimanski club). Fans could vote online at americasbestdj.us and also at dedicated voting booths at the various nationwide events.
Also, at a pre-event confab in a nearby hotel, Schulz conducted a meet-and-greet with contest-winning fans. In addition to commiserating with the dedicated Schulz Army members, the 2018 ABDJ champ discussed the heartbreak of losing a previous golden Pioneer DJ mixer that he won in 2014. After Hurricane Irma hit South Florida in the late summer of 2017, Schulz’s Coldharbour Studio was looted and, in addition to losing valuable studio gear, Schulz lost his golden trophy.
But what was lost now has been found – or at least replaced. Congrats, Markus!
