After announcing it this past March during Miami’s Winter Music Conference, Native Instruments has officially launched its multi-track Stems audio format.
Stems aims to introduce enhanced performances possibilities for DJs, allowing performers to freely interact with a tracks four different musical elements (such as drums, bass, keys, and vocals). Users can control each stem’s volume, filter, and effect settings independently to create new mixes, mashups, instrumentals, acapellas, and more on-the-fly. A standalone Stem Creator Tool application will go live later this summer, allowing anyone to create their own Stem
DJs can already begin taking advantage of Stems by updating to Traktor Pro 2.9 now via the NI Service Center. Additionally, Beatport, Bleep, Juno, Traxsource, whatpeopleplay, and Wasabeat have all begun selling Stem-format releases from prominent artists and labels, with the list of available tracks set to grow.
To celebrate the release of the new technology, Native Instruments is offering special pricing on its first Stems-ready DJ controllers: the Traktor Kontrol S8, D2, and F1. The sale runs through September 30. Go to Native-Instruments.com/PlayStems to take advantage of the deals.
