A thief squeezed through a broken window at the Paris Museum of Modern Art on Thursday and stole five paintings, including works by Picasso and Matisse. The total value was estimated at $127 million. Video images captured a man clad in a black hood, and no alarms sounded–at least not in English.
DJ Steve Moody knows what that feels like. His entire console was lifted from a venue not too long ago, and video clearly showed that the culprit worked there.
“It was unbelievable,” says Steve. “It turned out that it was the bartender. He just wheeled it out when I had stepped out, and it had everything—CDJs, laptop, amp, my livelihood. When I went to the management they were extremely helpful, we reviewed the video that was trained on a back entrance, and there was the bartender wheeling my console out and loading it into a van.”
The bungling bartender, who committed the heinous crime on a Friday, was approached the following Monday by the venue management and fessed up to his crime. Charges were pressed, and are pending.
“I feel sorry for the guy,” says Moody. “It was such a desperate, stupid thing.”
The lesson? Wear a black hood when rolling someone’s gear from a venue. Video killed not only the radio star.
