Jacking house is back, according to Erick Morillo, who spoke at the International Music Summit in Ibiza earlier on Wednesday. “What David Guetta is doing now is absolutely astonishing, what the Swedish House Mafia are doing is opening doors.”
Morillo, quizzed by Summit organizer Pete Tong on the “Big Dog DJs: F*** You We’re Famous” panel, also painted an optimistic picture of his—and dance music’s—future. “Vegas is fast becoming the Ibiza of America,” he said. “And it’s so important to be in touch with the young crowd coming through. It’s a new audience coming through every year, and Twitter is a great way to keep in touch with everyone and give an insight on your life other than what they’ve already known. It all comes down to branding: It’s really important to create a brand and to make that brand as big and prominent as possible.”
Morillo also announced the re-launch of Sondos records in June, with six new releases ready, and 20 releases expected from Subliminal.
We just can’t believe we’re in Ibiza at a panel inside a hotel room.
