Simon Cowell & SFX Announce Ultimate DJ Television Competition

EDM is headed to a television near you soon, as SFX has partnered with Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and T-Mobile to launch the upcoming Ultimate DJ series. SFX—the world’s largest producer of electronic music events and digital content—and Syco Entertainment have worked in tandem to create the Ultimate DJ program, which will combine online, televised, and live elements to showcase and cultivate new DJ/producer talent and creative event production skills.

The program is set to launch online initially, allowing fans to vote via social media on producer challenges that task the DJ contestants to submit recorded material. After this, the competition will proceed to live challenge rounds that will include performances at SFX venues.

Simon Cowell discussed the partnership that led to the series, saying:

“We have been developing this concept for a while but our partnership with SFX has been a real game-changer for this format. It made complete sense for us to collaborate with SFX with their access to the best up-and-coming DJs and their great marketing platform to build new DJ talent. And I’m delighted to have T-Mobile on board with their brilliant vision and innovation.”

Full details of the program—including its launch date and network—have yet to be revealed. How it will compare to last year’s Master of the Mix reality competition series on VH1 remains to be seen, but it’s certain the dance music community will have a lot to say on the matter.
