Red Bull Music Academy Announces 2014 Tokyo Event Series
Red Bull Music Academy is set to make its Tokyo debut this year from October 12 to November 14, and the schedule of public events has been unveiled.
During the day, the 59 Academy participants will work together in the custom-designed studio complex in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, with lectures and mentoring by Kerri Chandler, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Just Blaze, Mathew Jonson, and Dorian Concept. By night, the participants will perform at concerts, club night, and events that blend music, art, and culture, including performances from Kerri Chandler, Just Blaze, Zebra Katz, and even a live performance from Dorian Concept.
This will mark the Academy’s first time in Asia throughout its 16-year history, and its event itinerary aims to reflect its reverence for the trailblazers of Japanese culture past, present, and future. Some of these events include: a large-scale sculptural light installation by pioneering electronic and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda, an improv-themed show led by EYE of Boredoms and pioneering avant-gardist Otomo Yoshihide, a video series celebrating the unsung heroes of video game music, a multi-booth live stream from famed karaoke hotspot Karaokekan Shinjuku, public lectures with Otomo and multimedia artist Daito Manabe.
Tickets for all events will go on sale on August 23. For the full list of events, show, and exhibitions, go to RedBullMusicAcademy.com.
