America’s Best DJ 2013 nominee Porter Robinson has signed a worldwide record deal with Astralwerks Records and Virgin EMI UK. The deal comes as a result of a label bidding war that stemmed from Robinson shopping around a near-finished album to labels. Specific details about the record deal aren’t being revealed, but considering Astralwerks and EMI signed one of the first extensive EDM 360 deals—one that included tours, merchandise, and more—a few years back with Swedish House Mafia, it’s likely to be a significant one.
The deal will see the 21-year-old releasing his debut album artist next year, which has been described as an “eclectic collection of original, transformative, and immersive songs.” Speaking about album, Robinson said,
“This record I’ve been working on for the last couple of years focuses mostly on being beautiful, emotional, and vast-sounding,” Porter explains. “It’s got a sort of vintage-inspired, lo-fi, nostalgic vibe to it. The album is definitely not a mainstage EDM album at all. I’ve grown so tired of the formulaic, buildup-drop EDM formula. This record is listening music, not party music. I think fans of songs like “Language” will like the album – it’s meant to be emotional and pretty in the same way – but on a different set of sounds. I feel really strongly about this. It’s my favorite music I’ve ever made”
Porter Robinson’s album is due out in 2014.
