Monstercat Artist Playlist: Haywyre
Canadian electronic label Monstercat recently hit a landmark of one million records sold. To celebrate the achievement and the steps the forward-thinking label has taken to reach this point, DJ Times has talked to three of its artists to get their picks of their favorite Monstercat releases.
Stephen Walking kicked off the series last week with his picks, and this week’s playlist comes courtesy of Haywyre. The young producer has a classically trained ear coupled with an output of bass-pumping glitch hop that references everything from jazz to dubstep. Right now, he’s honoring the importance of his musical upbringing with the release his new single “Everchanging”: each purchase of the track supports the VH1 Save The Music foundation via its Pay By Donation release.
Au5 – “Follow You (feat. Danyka Nadeau)” (2014)
“This track didn’t take time to grow on me; the anticlimactic nature of the first entrance of the percussion has an incredible atmosphere. Not to mention the sound design is amazing, the vocals are great, and the piece is progressive. These features add up to one of my favorite tracks on Monstercat. “
Mr. FijiWiji – “Out On A Limb (feat. Jonny Rose)” (2014)
“Mr. FijiWiji is and has been one of my favorite artists on Monstercat. Consistently mellow and full of beautiful soundscapes, his style fits the context of the tempo and rhythm he chose perfectly. Additionally, Jonny Rose’s contribution makes for an absolutely perfect atmosphere.”
Tristam – “Once Again” (2014)
“The calm and cinematic intro features one of my favorite chord progressions followed by one of the only climaxes I have heard that incorporates major chords in the context of a heavy and uplifting section well. This piece is absolutely one of my favorite works on Monstercat.”
