#MixMonday – Let’s Be Friends: Friends With Benefits Podcast Episode 2
#MixMonday is getting its dial turned up to 11 this week courtesy of UK electro duo Let’s Be Friends’ hard-hitting episode of their Friends With Benefits podcast. We recently featured the duo’s explosive remix of Gwen Stefani’s hit “What You Waiting For?” as part of #FreePlayFriday, and the new mix shows off a continued dedication to sweltering bass and massive soundscapes.
The mix immediately kicks off into a blistering pace with an exclusive play of Karetus’ “Need You,” a synth-heavy big room tanker that sets much of the tone for the rest of the set. The duo sticks mainly to this tried-and-true electro aesthetic, but the occasional curveball—like Deorro’s funky “Five Hours” and the acid-drenched synths of Astronaut’s remix of Pegboard Nerds’ “Bassline Kicking”—keeps everything fresh.
Let’s Be Friends showcase the importance of track selection with a fine balance of certified hits (Major Lazer’s “Come to Me” and Dillon Francis & DJ Snake’s “Get Low”) and hot-off-the-presses releases (I See MONSTAS’ Moombahton rework of Ellie Goulding’s “Hanging On”). An exclusive mashup of Skrillex & Alvin Risk’s “Neon” with Yoann Feynman’s “LZR” really steals the show, although brief forays into Drum & Bass around the 20-minute mark and Future Bass as a finale are memorable moments.
