Generik Names His Top 5 Party-Rocking Set Weapons

By  |

Don’t let the name mislead you: there’s nothing nondescript about the party-ready house stylings of Generik.

The Australia-based artist—real name Tyson O’Brien—has turned his freewheeling party antics into a wealth of hot grooves and great vibes with a slew of sunny productions and top-notch performances at festivals and venues across the world. Having caught the ear of Calvin Harris, O’Brien made the transition from Australian club DJ to international sensation after touring with the Scottish superstar and even playing alongside him as part of his stint at Omnia Las Vegas. Moreover, Generik has kept the focus on himself with a series of solo North American slots, including the main stage of Los Angeles’ HARD Summer earlier this year.

Now, fresh off a string of performances at Australia’s traveling Stereosonic Festival and with a remix of Galantis’ “In My Head” on deck, 2016 is looking even brighter for the Australian party magnate. In the cards are a bevy of new releases on Onelove as well as the continuation of his busy touring schedule.

We caught up with Generik to get his picks for his favorite set weapons of the past few months.

Tchami – “After Life”

Ever since Tchami popped up on my radar, I’ve been a massive fan. I was lucky enough to tour with him as a part of the Stereosonic Festival this year. His DJ sets are amazing and he’s a legend! “Afterlife” for me is a tune and a half!

CID – “Love Is Blind”

I have been flogging pretty much every tune CID has produced recently—the sounds and groove are just so on point!

Hayden James – “Something About You (Generik Remix)”

Hayden James is a legend from Sydney who is starting to blow the hell up at the moment! Touring with Duke Dumont & Odesza all through the states this year, he’s going places. I was lucky enough to give his monster jam “Something About You” a bit of a touch up—hope you enjoy!

Disclosure – Magnets “(A-Trak Remix)”

A-Trak is a lord behind the decks, and Disclosure are lords in and out of the studio!. A-Trak now shows off his ability to turn an already great record into an absolute banger. Girls, this tune is for you!

Tame Impala – “Let It Happen (Soulwax Remix)”

Tame Impala have been my favorite band for a while now. “Let It Happen” is such a jam, and when the gods of dance music Soulwax remix a tune, it is always a monster. This is no exception. I like to finish my sets with this one, get into the crowd, and dance!
