#FreePlayThursday – 8/8/2013
It’s Thursday, which means you’re just a day away from the weekend. Grab yourself a slew of new tracks that we’ve picked to get you over the hump. With styles ranging from hardstyle bass to deep house in this week’s set, we’ve got all bases covered!
Fans of disco house are in luck this week, with The Knocks’ remix of “One Day” delivering stuttering soul vocals and a funk bassline. Rob Garza remixes the Blondie classic “Heart of Glass” into a space disco jam that turns Debbie Harry’s ethereal vocals into those of a dancefloor queen. Luke The Knight’s edits Oliver Nelson’s remix of “Suit & Tie,” with the end result being a tropical groove.
For those looking for deeper sound, Anna Lunoe and AC Slater cover J. Cole’s “Power Trip,” transforming it into a deep house floor filler. The track wears its garage influences on its sleeve, with Anna Lunoe herself providing the sleek vocals. Conversely, Telli & Bass have crafted an entrancing hip hop take on Chicago house with the track “Party Gods,” which clashes the smooth production with Telli’s raucous verses.
Funkin Matt toes the line between hardstyle and electro house on “MAD,” with an unusual song structure that features vocal cuts and pulsing rhythms. The Bixel Boys pitch and chop the vocals of Robin Thicke’s “4 The Rest of My Life” before throwing it all on top of a dub-inspired R&B groove. The sleek production also features a slight trap influence.
