#FreePlayThursday – 7/18/2013
In need of a quick, free stormer to load your libraries and sets for the weekend? We’ve got seven killer tracks just for you, completely free of charge. Read about our picks and listen to the whole set on our Soundcloud below.
“Crown,” Diplo’s latest release, fully exemplifies the phrase “Wait for the drop.” The build is a synth-heavy progression led by Mike Posner’s vocals, while the drop is a grinding madhouse of pitch-shifting bass that is bound to absolutely destroy dancefloors everywhere. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Eliot Lipp delivers a breezy remix of El-Ten Eleven’s “No One Died This Time!” that is packed with uplifting synths and melodies.
Datsik delivers his brand of bass music with his remix of “Around the Block” off of Pretty Lights’ newly released album, merging small elements of drum and bass with his combination of dubstep and hip-hop. For those looking to delve into a bit of deep house, Serge Devant has made his sleek remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful” that we covered a while back available for free.
“There’s no free lunch,” as the saying goes, and on that token, there is the occasional free track requiring a Facebook Like or Twitter follow. Viceroy offers up a summery progressive-house remix of Maroon 5’s “Love Somebody”—which works and sounds much better than you’d think it would—in exchange for a Facebook Like. MAKJ, who’s currently tearing up charts with “Springen,” offers up a bootleg mashup of Reece Low’s minimalistic electro-house mix of “What’s Your Name Girl” with Blur’s classic “Song 2.” Finally, all you need to do in order to nab The Chainsmokers’ euphoric big room mix of “Miss Atomic Bomb” is follow the NYC duo on Twitter.
