#FreePlayFriday – 6/6/2014
June’s finally here, so celebrate the onset of summer and your weekend with four free tracks! If you’re looking for piano house, disco funk, big room EDM, or anything in between, you’re in the right place.
This week’s set of picks kicks off with Alex Ross’ remix of recent Secondcity’s UK No.1 single “I Wanna Feel.” Ross keeps the 90s house backbone of the track intact, creating a dub of the track that emphasizes the classic Toni Braxton vocal sample. The bassline receives the biggest makeover in the form of an underground house overhaul, going deeper, darker, and entirely club-ready.
Mat Zo and The Knocks team up for the funky “Get Down 2 Get Up,” available for free through Mat Zo’s Soundcloud. While Zo’s recent outing with Kill The Noise as Kill The Zo was a brash drum and bass affair, NYC pair The Knocks bring out a leisure suit-ready old school flair for the collaboration. With vocodered robot vocals and a carefree hands-up vibe, this one wouldn’t sound out of place at your sunset pool party or Daft Punk’s next album.
Los Angeles’ DallasK is treating fans to a free original with “SUPERFUTURE.” It’s a shape-shifting slice of festival-ready EDM, with its first drop channeling glitchy electro minimalism before transforming into a melodic progressive house stormer. DJs and producers are in luck, too, as DallasK has also included the track’s stems with the download.
Record label and apparel brand Kitsuné recently released ViLLAGE’s debut EP of his track “The Touch.” The producer has now unleashed his own VIP remix of the track, serving up a future trap sound characterized by glacial synths and grinding electro chainsaws. The track manages to be both aggressive and subdued simultaneously, perfect for both the party or your commute home from it.
