#FreePlayFriday – 6/27/2014
You’ve made it to the weekend, so reward yourself with some new music on the house! Grab five tracks that will turn out anything from underground raves to a festival’s main stage from this week’s edition of #FreePlayFriday.
The ever-elusive Róisín Murphy finally returned with the release of her Italian EP Mi Senti last month, and the first remixes of the package have finally been unveiled. Fans who sign up for Murphy’s email list here can nab a free download of Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi Vapour “Ancora Tu” remix. Murphy’s vocals sound as smooth and comforting as ever, floating elegantly above a rich synths and a relaxing Italo disco essence.
Indie songstress Banks is the subject of another remix this week with the release of Glass Animals’ rework of her single “Drowning.” Vocal distortions and prominent drums create a distinctly sensual vibe that’s simultaneously hypnotic and commanding.
Australian DJ/producer Motez returns with an underground transformation of Iggy Azalea’s radio smash “Fancy.” Pitching Iggy’s vocals down to near-unrecognizable levels, Motez emphasizes their rhythmic nature by underscoring it with garage basslines, rave horns, and an unforgettable groove.
Child Actor are previewing their album Never Die with a free download of “Against The Night.” Given the track’s glacial future-trap aesthetic, fans of Purity Ring are sure to appreciate the delicate vocals, high-pitched synth hits, and grinding bassline.
America’s Best DJ nominee Tommie Sunshine drops his bootleg “Manga Party” bootleg, pitting Yves V against David Guetta and GLOWINTHEDARK for an explosive crowd pleaser. For the mix, Tommie takes the rapid-fire drums of Yves V’s track and pairs them with aggressive vocals for a track that commands listeners to dance.
