#FreePlayFriday – 12/27/2013
The end of the year is just around the corner, and 2013 will soon just be a memory. Look both forward and backward with this week’s roundup of free downloads, which will have you dancing through the rest of the year and beyond.
Given the enormous amount of Lana Del Rey remixes that were seemingly everywhere this year, it’s only fitting to kick off 2013’s last #FreePlayFriday with Richy Ahmed’s remix of “Summertime Sadness.” Offered courtesy of Hot Creations, the remix is a deep cut that fits nicely among the label’s other releases. Featuring a hypnotic bassline overlaid with handclaps and 909 drumkits, the track serves up a heaping dose of early 90s house nostalgia amongst its sunny rays. On the other end of the spectrum, DJ K Millz’s “Light Up” is a frantic trap-bounce anthem, heavy on sample work and synth teases. For a year that was fixated on twerking, the track serves as the perfect sendoff.
AlunaGeorge hit it big on Disclosure’s smash “White Noise,” but Tchami’s remix of their single “You Know You Like It” showcases a whole different side of the duo. Dubbed “future house” by the producer himself, Tchami takes the original and transforms it into a pulsing banger with the use of some of the most intriguing glass synth work heard this year. Hardwell puts a cap on his massive 2013 by celebrating three million Facebook fans with the release of his private edit of “Apollo.” The edit, heard frequently in his sets, merges elements of the original track with parts of both the Lucky Date remix and Noisecontrollers’ own edit, and is nothing short of big room destroyer.
Leeds-based DJ/producer Hot Since 82 is giving out a two-hour mix of his favorite tracks from the year. Dubbed “Knee Deep in 2013,” the mix showcases his penchant for lush, deep basslines and an impeccable track selection. Additionally, Ryan Hemsworth is offering up a package of ten unreleased remixes, including mixes of Beyonce, Lorde, R. Kelly, Disclosure, and more. Head over to his Facebook to grab the download.
