#FreePlayFriday – 12/20/2013
The holidays are just around the corner, which really just means presents are coming your way. Regardless of whether you’ve ended up on the naught or nice list this year, we’ve got six presents for you in the form of free tracks!
Maya Jane Coles kicks off this week’s picks with “Dreamer,” a cut from her album Comfort she’s offering for free to celebrate reaching one million Soundcloud followers. The ethereal track packs around a subdued bassline with a detached vocal and electronica touch. Anja Schneider whips out the techy “La Roulette” out this week, and decks a series of chants around an oscillating synth lead. DFA Records ups the ante with the Paul Woolford dub of Shit Robot’s “We Got a Love.” The track’s piano lead leads into an addictive mixture of pitch-shifted vocal cuts and deep bass.
Those looking for something a bit louder should look no further than the next trio of tracks. SNAILS and Botnek have unleashed “KRMT” in exchange for liking their Facebook pages, and the filthy electro track is well worth the effort. Making full use of Botnek’s slimy synths, the song’s drop is a nightmarish trifecta of tripped out Kermit the Frog croaks, cutting bass, and relentless chainsaw synths. Tommie Sunshine and Deorro’s “Supa Hot Fiya” lives up to its name with its schizophrenic Melbourne Bounce drop and pulsing low-end, and is free courtesy of labels Brooklyn Fire and Panda Funk. Autoerotique rounds out this #FreePlayFriday “Nasty,” an unabashed laser bass banger that is reminiscent of Diplo & GTA’s “Boy Oh Boy” and even a little bit of Latin house.
