#FreePlayFriday – 11/22/2013
It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving, and right now we’re giving thanks for this set of free downloads. This week’s picks are everything from deep house bootlegs to big room electro stormers.
New York duo the Chainsmokers kick off this week with a brand new original, “#Selfie (LIV at Midnight Edit).” The track is heavily influenced by Melbourne Bounce and features a spoken vocal sample successfully mocking every cliché of the Instagram-glued club-goer, including the brilliant “It’s not even summer, why is the DJ playing ‘Summertime Sadness’.” Victor Niglio delivers a similar, albeit less tongue-in-cheek, electro wrecker with his VIP mix of “Jiggy,” a behemoth of a track packed with didgeridoo samples along with heaping amounts of fuzzy bass blasts.
For those looking for a deeper cut, Tittsworth delivers “African Drake,” a bootleg pitting his remix of “African Chant” with vocal elements of Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home.” The vocals are chopped and distorted, giving the dark track an atmospheric touch. Fehrplay and Jeremy Olander on the tech-progressive track “Balboa.” Fusing the rushes and synths that any friend of Pryda is used to with the minimalist tech stylings blowing up the underground, the track is a stunning, melodic jam.
MAKJ rounds out this week’s picks with his bootleg “We Want Some Pussy.” In the mashup, MAKJ takes the throwback 2 Live Crew track and polishes it with a Melbourne Bounce sheen. The results are bound to get any crowd moving.
