Fans Start NYC Street Naming Campaign for Legendary Larry Levan

Before the days of electronic music festivals and EDM, there was New York City’s Paradise Garage. Commonly cited as the blueprint for the nightclub experience as we know it today, the Paradise Garage was helmed by its resident DJ, Larry Levan. In the years following the clubs closure and Levan’s untimely death, the legacy and myth surrounding the DJ/producer has grown.

To celebrate the legend, fans have organized a campaign to rename the section of King Street between Varick and Greenwich Street (the block where the club was located) after Larry Levan. The petition aims to “reflect the outpouring of support in memory of a true pioneer of the dance music industry and native New Yorker, “ and has a goal of 5,000 signatures.
