Not much has been heard from Galantis, the collaborative side-project of Swedish DJ/producer Style of Eye and Miike Snow’s Christian Karlsson (Bloodshy of pop production outlet Bloodshy & Avant), besides 2012’s two-track Raveheart EP and the A-Trak collaboration “Jumbo.” The pair is back, however, with “Smile,” premiered yesterday on Pete Tong’s US radio show as one of his Essential New Tunes.
“Smile” opens with a layered acapella of the song’s main lyrical hook before descending into subdued synths and piano. Over the song’s slow build, the bubbly electro synths slowly come in before exploding into a euphoric section featuring vocal repetitions that merge into the track’s instrumental. The anthemic, uplifting sound of the track really plays to both artists’ strengths, with a production reminiscent of “Taken Over,” Style of Eye’s collaboration with Rebecca & Fiona and vocal production and manipulation that recalls Karlsson’s earlier work with Miike Snow.
“Smile” will be released on November 5th and can be streamed above. For more information on Galantis, go to WeAreGalantis.com.
