Las Vegas – Once again, it’s back to Sin City for another round of shows on the America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ & DJ Times.
Fast-forward: This weekend finds us doing double-duty at Marquee Dayclub and Nightclub. First up on Saturday, it’s Texas trance kings Tritonal at the Dayclub. We’ll be rocking the shades, trying not to get splashed by the pool-bound trancers. Bring the mai-tais!
Then, later at the nighclub, it’s a full-on evening of Kaskade as he spins another hot set during his Summer Lovin’ residency. After winning the 2011 America’s Best DJ title, Kaskade was ineligible to win in 2012. (No DJ can win consecutive years.) But he’s eligible to take the title in 2013—and if that happens, he’d be the very first two-time champ. Stay tuned.
As usual, DJ Times will be in the house for both events with a dedicated voting table. Fans who vote for America’s Best DJ online or at events have a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas for the ABDJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony at Marquee Nightclub on Oct. 13.
Rewind: This past Saturday, July 27, we re-visited my hometown, Columbus, GA, for an evening with Roonie G at his Mix Ultra Lounge. Set in a new space on Broadway, a couple stones throws away from the Chattahoochee River, Mix Ultra Lounge drew a mix of local Georgians, Alabamians from just over the river in Phenix City and a good amount of military personal stationed at nearby Ft. Benning.
And with his deft mix of current hits, mash-ups, classics and custom video mixes, Roonie didn’t disappoint. But boy, do people party differently down there. (Pull up to the bumper, if you know what I mean.) Whenever Roonie dropped a booty-shakin’ bass bomb or trap tune, the dancefloor went wild. No doubt, I felt like I was all 1,000 miles from NYC—house and techno weren’t happening, but that Southern party music burned the place up.
Thanks to Roonie and everyone at Mix Ultra Lounge for the hospitality and professionalism. It was a terrific homecoming.
Now, off to Vegas! We’ll see you on the dancefloor.
