To kick off the start of EDC in Vegas, Afrojack is releasing the It’s A Matter Of… EP on Beatport this Friday, June 21st. The 4-track EP focuses on “hard beats and electrifying underground sounds,” and is intended to be both a thank you to his longtime fans and a precursor to his upcoming debut album scheduled for later this year.
Afrojack on the release:
“It’s about the fans and giving them the music they want. I’ve really been focusing on my album and trying to throw the best parties around the world. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be doing this, so this EP is really a big ‘thank you’ for their ongoing support and love of my music.”
Eschewing vocals in favor of heavier basslines and builds, Afrojack successfully merges his trademark style with harder sounds on this release. “Ray Bomb” raises the tension with a melodic build before the signature “Turn up the bass!” phrase drops the track into a frenzy of high-pitched, kinetic blips and synths. “Rocker” and “Yubaba” see Afrojack explore more ambient builds and stuttering, chopped vocals reminiscent of Skrillex’s work. “Griever” is a particular highlight with its dark, minimalistic approach that keeps the energy pumping.
Additionally, Afrojack has announced a competition for his fans to get involved with the release of the track “Ray Bomb.” To enter, fans must submit an animated or mixed animation video by July 29. The winner, chosen by Genro and Afrojack himself, will receive £3,000. To enter, go to Genero.tv/afrojack
In addition to the Beatport release this Friday, the EP will be available at other digital retailers on June 25th. For more information, go to Afrojack.com and listen to the It’s A Matter Of… preview mini-mix below.
