Denver—After a weekend that couldn’t have seen more different audiences, the America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ settles into one spot this time around. And lucky for the fans and the DJs, it’s in one of America’s most spectacular settings—Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Not that there was anything wrong with Mariaville, N.Y., this past July 12-14 when we did the all-night thing at Camp Bisco, watching a slew of America’s Best DJ nominees (including Skrillex, A-Trak, Bassnectar, Craze, Kill the Noise, MiMOSA, Porter Robinson and Star Eyes (from Trouble & Bass). Yes, there was plenty of bass in your face, plus a couple of crispy sunrises.
And there wasn’t anything lacking at the Las Vegas tour stops this past July 13-15 when we hit Marquee Nightclub on consecutive nights (for Gabriel & Dresden on Friday, then Blake Jarrell and Markus Schulz on Saturday) and then Tao Beach (for Markus Schulz). But obviously, those are two groups of EDM fans that live and party rather differently. We had a blast in both places, enjoying the late-night landscape in one spot and the bottle service in the other. C’est la vie.
On to Morrison, Col., just outside the Mile High City, where we’ll hunker down to three days of Global Dance Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Presented by Triad Dragons, GDF runs Friday through Sunday this year and will present nearly 70 acts, including six America’s Best DJ nominees—Wolfgang Gartner, Morgan Page, Manufactured Superstars, Dillon Francis, 12th Planet and Kill the Noise.
And DJ Times will be there at America’s most beautiful outdoor music venue, taking votes for the nominees and giving fans a chance to win a slew of prizes, including Pioneer DJ gear and a trip for two to Las Vegas for the ABDJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony at Marquee on Oct. 7.
With temperatures expected in the upper-90s, we’ll be sure to keep our water bottle filled—and we hope to see you at the very top of Red Rocks this weekend for some great music in one of our greatest venues.
