Inner City’s Kevin Saunderson

We’ve been to the The Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Movement), and we’re returning to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Movement) this weekend from May 29-30, because no other city in the States, or in the world, can boast such a pedigree of legendary and contemporary electronic music standouts. Plus, we’ve got Detroit Tigers’ rookie standout Austin Jackson in our rotisserie team.

Just a sampling of the performers: Richie Hawtin presents Plastikman – Live; Inner City – Live; Model 500 – Live; Agoria, Derrick Carter, DJ Pierre, DJ Sneak, John Acquaviva, Josh Wink, Kenny Larkin – Live; Larry Heard; Luke Hess – Live; Mark Ernestus (Rhythm & Sound) set; Matthew Hawtin; Recloose; Rex Sepulveda – Live; Scion – Live; Stacey Pullen; Woody McBride.

This year, Inner City’s Kevin Saunderson has taken on the role of musical curator, and he told us the Movement Festival is as important a Detroit-area contribution as is a Chevy Malibu, or Bob Eubanks. “It’s an important part of my music,” he said. “It’s a support system that supports the artists in Detroit. The music we created, and it has been respected throughout the world. Over the years, we’ve had the chance to perform in our own hometown, right in the heart of Detroit. When I think about all the work we put together in creating this, it’s just nice to come home and give the crowd something special.”
