DJ Times Nexus Radio Episode 007: Mixed by Destructo
No one knows how to party HARD quite like Destructo. As the founder of HARD Events, Destructo—the stage name of Gary Richards—is no stranger to the fundamentals of planning massive electronic music shows and festivals. In addition to preparing for the upcoming HARD Red Rocks and HARD summer events in the coming weeks, Destructo has managed to continue his stream of tour gigs and release his new single “Party Up.”
For his Nexus Radio guest mix, Destructo drops a live recording from his Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas performance alongside Wax Motif. It’s a high-energy mix that transcends genre classifications, with moments of electro, big room house, G-house, and hip hop that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Tune in via our Soundcloud and read our chat with the busy DJ/producer below!
DJ Times: Your single “Party Up” just came out. What went into the creative process of the track?
Destructo: I just wanted to make something that I could play in my sets. I’ve been looking for cool house and hip hop collaborations, and thank god we got YG to jump on the track!
DJ Times: With Nero, Dillon Francis, Rudimental, and Julio Bashmore, HARD Red Rocks has a very eclectic lineup. What went into booking it?
Destructo: I was trying to put together an eclectic mix that shows the diversity of HARD. It’s tough on a one-stage show, but I think we nailed it. We’ve got UK, Electro-Dillon beats, live music, house and the Samo sound.
DJ Times: HARD Summer is returning to LA this August at a new venue. Is this year’s event going to be different from prior incarnations?
Destructo: For sure. It’s bigger, with five stages and a much larger park with grass. I’m so excited for this one. It should be the best HARD event to date.
DJ Times: With so many electronic music festivals taking place, how do HARD events differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack?
Destructo: We always book music we love and don’t follow what other festival organizers do. We try to lead the way with new music and are always pushing the envelope with new genres. That’s what electronic music is all about.
DJ Times: What else can fans expect from HARD Events and Destructo during the rest of 2014?
Destructo: You will have to wait and see, but big things are in the works.
