DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist are set to celebrate the legacy of Universal Zulu Nation founder Afrika Bambaataa on their Renegades of Rhythm US tour this fall. For the tour, the turntablists will solely use vinyl records pulled from Afrika Bambaataa’s historic 40 thousand-plus record collection, hoping to capture the legend’s genre-defying legacy.

The idea for the tour was initially conceived by Cornell Hip Hop Archive founder Johan Kugelberg, who introduced the pair to Bambaataa’s collection. The stage will feature six turntables and a set of real-time effects and sampling, with visuals supplied by video director and multimedia producer Ben Stokes.

Speaking of the tour, America’s Best DJ nominee DJ Shadow said:

“This has never been done before; definitely not on this scale. They’re his records with his blessings. This isn’t just any copy of ‘X’ breakbeat, it’s the copy that started everything. Not just any records, the Master of Records’ records.”

The full tour dates are below, and tickets go on sale on Friday, June 20. For more information go to DJ Shadow’s website and Cut Chemist’s website.
