Atlantic City, N.J.—Once again, DJ Expo is just around the corner and, as always, the long-running exhibition and conference stands ready to present a new slate of DJ-friendly events and activities.

Set for Aug. 8-11 and presented by DJ Times and its publisher Testa Communications at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J., DJ Expo will offer three days of exhibits featuring the world of DJ products (audio, lighting, video, studio, accessory, etc.). Additionally, it will conduct four days of DJ-centric seminars and workshops, including plenty from exhibiting companies. And at night, Expo attendees and exhibitors can enjoy three evenings of sponsored parties.

On Aug. 8 at Casbah, two consecutive parties launch the Expo’s nocturnal activities. The early-evening Mobile Kick-Off Party—hosted by Elite Entertainment’s Mike Walter—will give way later to The DJ Expo Kick-Off Party Hosted by Denon DJ.

On Aug. 9 in House of Blues at Showboat, The Annual Promo Only Showcase (including new sponsor Denon DJ) will present another deep rollout of talent that’ll include DJs and chart-topping vocalists. Recent-past performers have included Lady Gaga, Shaggy, Kelly Rowland and Mike Posner. Who will it be this year? Stay tuned. Additionally, Moodswing360 will present an afterparty at the Mixx club at Borgata. Talent TBA.

On Aug. 10, the Casbah will house a pair of special events. First up will be the 10th Annual “DJ of the Year” Competition, sponsored by Peavey Electronics. Again hosted by Mike Walter, the event will bestow awards for a variety of mobile-related categories. “We have a dozen of the top mobile entertainers from across the country competing,” says Walter, “and they’ve submitted some great dances and games that will not only entertain, but also educate every mobile-DJ attendee. Also, as this is our 10th anniversary event, we expect that it’ll be very special.”

Immediately after the Wednesday-night mobile competition at Casbah, Expo attendees can experience the “Pioneer DJ Official DJ Expo Closing Party,” featuring top talent and plenty of product giveaways. In addition to a party-rockin’ set from DJ Skribble, the event will present exclusive video sets from DJ 2nd Nature and DVDJ Unique. More performers to be announced.

Also, DJ Expo is stepping up its efforts to bring you direct connections to the legends of the DJ industry. In addition to a Keynote Q&A from DJ Skribble, the DJ Expo is proud to announce two more keynote discussions from a pair of DJ/producers who have made their indelible marks on our culture—Keith Shocklee and Robert Clivillés.

As a member of Public Enemy’s production team, The Bomb Squad, Shocklee helped create some of hip-hop’s most profound hits, like “Fight the Power” and “Bring the Noise.” (Shocklee will also perform on the Expo showfloor stage, DJ Times Square.) Clivillés, of course, was a longtime DJ/producer before his act C+C Music Factory blew up and dropped evergreen hits like “Gonna Make You Sweat” and “Pride (A Deeper Love).”

And on the Expo’s last exhibit day, Aug. 11, one lucky attendee will have his or her business card pulled from the hopper to win the Ultimate DJ Giveaway. The winner will cart away a variety of gear from American DJ, Pioneer, Promo Only and Rane.
