deadmau5 has revealed a new partnership between mau5trap Recordings and US record label Astralwerks. The new partnership will see Astralwerks becoming the US home for all deadmau5 releases and the exclusive distributor and label partner for Mau5trap recordings. This two-tier deal is the first of its kind for Astralwerks, with deadmau5 acting as both a label partner via mau5trap and as an Astralwerks roster artist.

Kicking off this partnership is Astralwerks’ release of the new mau5trap compilation We Are Friends Volume 2. In addition to two new deadmau5 tracks— “Suckfest 9001″ and “Your Ad Here”—the compilation will contain material from the imprint’s roster, including BSOD (deadmau5 and Steve Duda), James Njie, Kairo Kingdom, and more.

deadmau5 will retain creative control of mau5trap as part of the agreement, and will still cultivate and nurture new acts through the Toronto-based imprint. Astralwerks General Manager Glenn Mendlinger expressed his excitement regarding the deal, saying:

We are thrilled to be working with deadmau5 both as an artist and as an A&R partner for his mau5trap label. Joel is an absolute trail blazer, pushing the boundaries of electronic music, production, and the live experience to places unimaginable without his vision and contribution. This is an exciting moment, but it’s only the beginning.”
