Daft Punk to Perform at 2014 Grammy Awards
The robots of Daft Punk will make a rare television appearance on the 2014 Grammy Awards on January 26 with their first live performance since 2010. The duo will join previously announced performers Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons P!nk and Nate Ruess, and Willie Nelson. Additionally, the duo will also attend as nominees, with “Get Lucky” nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Group Performance, while Random Access Memories is nominated for Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Reportedly, the negotiations for the performance lasted a “couple months,” with the duo agreeing due to their positive experience performing with Kanye West on the 2008 Grammy Awards. The pair was scheduled to perform on The Colbert Report this summer, but the pair notably withdrew at the last minute due to a contract conflict over their later appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Details about the performance are still being worked out, so it’s unclear what they’ll be playing and if Pharrell and Nile Rodgers will make an appearance.
