AT&T Reaches Out and Touches a DJ
Who says AT&T is the worst carrier in the nation?
Anyone who owns an iPhone, obviously, but try telling that to DJ Iron Mike, who recently phoned an AT&T retail outlet when Lady Luck reached out and, er, touched him.
“I returned a call to a potential client, who works at an AT&T store,” he says, “a woman was shopping in the store and she overheard him talking to me. She caught on to the fact that he was talking to a DJ. I actually heard her ask for my contact info in the background.
“I took her number and called her immediately. She was looking for a DJ for her daughter’s engagement party. She liked my pitch and I booked her that day. She explained the story of her daughter and future son-in-law to me. They were learning-impaired, as were many of their friends. I didn’t really realize how special the engagement party was until I was actually at The Courtyard on Main in Freehold, NJ. The couple (Nikki & Jeff) had a great glow about them; they were dancing almost the whole time and really enjoyed themselves.
”I really didn’t have to do anything that different in terms of programming. Jeff is a huge Lady Gaga fan, Nikki requested several Hannah Montana tracks. They were also into Pitbull, Black Eyed Peas, The Pussycat Dolls and for slower fare: Celine Dion. Their friend Anthony (he has down syndrome) requested I play “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” for his parents, who were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. That in itself was also a nice moment for the afternoon. The day was a very rewarding experience that I’ll never forget.”
