At the Alamo, Lady Gaga is No-No

lady gagaErr, Houston—DJ Olyn Taylor has a problem.  He loves Lady Gaga as much as anyone, especially the new video for “Telephone,” but arty skin-flick music videos stand as much chance of acceptance in Texas grade-school events as, say, Death Row prison porn, or a blow-up image of Ozzy Osbourne urinating on the Alamo.

We know Miss Gaga would welcome the publicity that censorship stirs, but, really, at the end of the day, we think the Ozzy Osbourne thing was far more outrageous. The Alamo!?

“I can’t DJ a school event in Houston and show the Lady Gaga video for “Telephone,” says Taylor, owner of DJ Specialist. “Believe me, I’d love to, I’ve invested tons of money in screens and projectors, and I’m really loving the Denon HD-4500 and the upsell on the video, and I know the kids would love it. But school administrators just don’t want to deal with parents who’d get angry if their kids see that stuff at school.”

To which Scott Horn from Westchester, NY, says, “And, in reality, neither do we DJs want to deal with parents. It’s unfortunate, but it makes us look bad if we play the video and someone takes offence to it.”

DJ Marshall Moore suggests: “Edit a video with some other images to the song…” (see comments below for deets)

There is an upside, however, to the Gaga video. “I will show the video to administrators who book me,” says Taylor, “and I’ll say, ‘This is what you might see.’ And then I let them decide.”
