America’s Best DJ: On the Road for the Homestretch

Washington, D.C.—After a week at DJ Expo, which saw over 5,000 jocks flood into Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal, America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ headed back out to U.S. clubland this past weekend with two big DJs playing three big nights.

And this coming weekend, we’ll wrap up the tour dates with an eye on Labor Day—when America’s Best DJ voting ends at 11:59 pm (September 5).
D.C-based house favorite Saeed Younan wielded his magic this past Friday, Aug. 19, at the Lima Lounge, a precious spot inside the District that had fans grooving all night long. (And if that’s not enough, the venue sports a pretty hot restaurant, too.) DJ Times was there with a dedicated booth, taking ABDJ votes for Saeed, who played a terrific set of proper house music.

Simultaneously, the tour went “way down in Columbus, Ga.,” where world class video-jock Roonie G dazzled and entertained at Mix Ultra Lounge Friday and Saturday Aug. 19-20.
The previous few weeks saw plenty of America’s Best DJ activity, too. This past July 31, we headed to Shephard’s Beach Resort in Clearwater Beach, Fla., for a hot set from DJ Skribble, a guy we like to call “America’s hardest-working DJ.” His beachfront set included EDM favorites, hip-hop bombs and mash-up monsters.

Then at DJ Expo in Atlantic City on Aug. 10, Pioneer DJ pulled out all the stops with its Official DJ Expo Closing Party at Casbah. In addition to top video jocks DVDJ Unique and DJ 2nd Nature, the event included sets from 2010 America’s Best DJ champ QBert, plus three 2011 nominees—Skribble, DJ Shiftee (2009 DMC World Champ) and BT (2010 Grammy Nominee). Fans were surprised when, after their sets, each of the entertainers unplugged one piece of gear and handed it into the crowd—for keeps!

Coming Up This Weekend: Stay tuned for our Hamptons excursion on Aug. 27, as we join ABDJ nominee/Long Island favorite DJ Theo at Neptune Beach Club in E. Quogue, N.Y., for a day of sun and beats.

Voting ends on Labor Day, Sept. 6 with America’s Best DJ 2011 announced soon after. Then, on October 9, we’ll be at Marquee in Las Vegas for the America’s Best DJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony. And remember, when you vote for America’s Best DJ online or in-person, you are automatically entered to win a trip for two to Las Vegas and the Closing Party. Gotta be in it to win it—good luck!
