America’s Best DJ: NYC Grooves & Chi-Town Jams

By  |

Chicago – This past weekend, we caught a double dose of New York City grooves and, looking forward to Independence Day weekend, we’re thrilled to be able to blow into the Windy City for a beachfront festival sporting an outstanding lineup of its own.

It’s just the next two chapters in the book that’s America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ & DJ Times.

This past Thursday, June 27, we made a local stop at Don Coqui in Astoria, Queens, to catch some Latin flavor with one of our fave area jocks, DJ Creme. Dropping a set of “Tropical 40,” Latin classics and floor-filling freestyle jams, Creme did his simulcast on NYC’s X 96/3 FM (“La Mezcla de New York”) and worked a 21-to-60 crowd that was happy to catch shelter from the storm raging outside.

The following night, we hit Marquee New York on Manhattan’s West Side to catch some classy West Coast house jams from Miguel Migs. With a table full of friends and Facebook contest winners, we rode the groove all night. (Thanks to promoters Sleepy & Boo for all the hospitality.) Of course, DJ Times maintained a dedicated booth at both events, taking votes for ABDJ nominees and passing out the latest editions of DJ Times.

This weekend, we’ll be at Chicago’s Montrose Beach for Wavefront Beachside Music Festival, which runs July 5-7. With the promising weekend weather and a lineup that includes 13 different ABDJ-nominated DJs, Wavefront should give July 4th weekenders quite a bang. ABDJ-nominated jocks playing Wavefront include AC Slater (Trouble & Bass), 3lau, Cedric Gervais, Danny Tenaglia, Derrick Carter, Diplo, Dubfire, Erick Morillo, Frankie Knuckles, Mark Farina, Nicolas Jaar, Sharam, and Soul Clap—a terrific bill.

Of course, we’re always thrilled for the rare opportunity to hear the one and only Godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles, playing in his adopted hometown. Props to The Godfather! (Listen: Here’s his recent Boiler Room set.)
Remember, at ABDJ tour stops and online, voters are automatically entered to win a trip for two to Las Vegas for the ABDJ Award Ceremony/Closing Party at the Marquee Nightclub, set for Oct. 13. And fans who Like America’s Best DJ on Facebook or Follow America’s Best DJ on Twitter are automatically entered to win one of many weekly prizes from Pioneer DJ and DJ Times.

We’ll see you on the dancefloor.
