America’s Best DJ: Nearing the Home Stretch
New York City—Ten weeks since kicking off at Detroit’s Movement fest, America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ & DJ Times makes the turn into its final month of events.
Of course, the questions still remain: Who will be voted America’s Best DJ? Will the votes collected at the tour events help tip the scales?
Lucky for the New York-based crew at the DJ Times, we get to stay at home again this weekend—no airports, no TSA, no rental cars, no hotels. After recently finishing two weekends’ worth of NYC/ABDJ events, we’re set to work another. At the same time, our old Georgia pal (and perennial ABDJ nominee) Roonie G will return to his “home ballpark,” as he offers up another unique serving of video delights.

Translation: This past July 27, the tour hit Pacha NYC in Manhattan as ABDJ noms The Disco Fries and Tommie Sunshine tore down the house with their energetic brand of house, which included plenty of exclusive “Fries & Shine” mixes. Then the following Aug. 2, we hopped the N train—OK, a few of us took a taxi—to Don Coqui in Astoria, Queens, for some Latin flavor with ABDJ nom/regional fave DJ Creme on the decks, spinning salsa and freestyle hits. (And we recommend the Don Coqui’s restaurant—oh, those huge servings!)
Looking ahead to this Friday, Roonie G entertains at the Mix Ultra Lounge way down in Columbus, Ga., while ABDJ nominees Sleepy & Boo lay down some proper house music at Manhattan’s ever-popular Cielo. Even though we’ll be nearly 1,000 miles apart, it’ll be late nights for everyone.
As has been the case for all ABDJ events, DJ Times will be in the house taking votes for all America’s Best DJ nominees, in addition to handing out the latest issue and special literature for next week’s DJ Expo in Atlantic City.
Fans who vote for an America’s Best DJ nominee online or at an event, fans who Like us on Facebook, and fans who Follow us on Twitter all are automatically entered to win plenty of prizes—including subscriptions to DJ Times, ultra-hot gear from Pioneer DJ and (as grand prize) a trip for two to Las Vegas for the America’s Best DJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony at Marquee Nightclub on Oct. 7.
