ABDJ Tour Update: After Mass., What’s Next? Vegas, Baby.

OK, so Worcester, Mass., may never be confused with Ibiza in the greater realm of DJ- and electronic-dance-music culture, but we gotta say… Kick It Recordings’ “Kick the System” event at Club Oasis this past Friday was really a buncha fun. Hard to say what kind of expectations we had heading up through Connecticut to the Mass Pike, but we were pleasantly surprised by the outpouring. It seemed that every state in New England was represented—we met EDM fans who travelled from all over the region—and were they ever up for it.

But that’s the beauty of America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ—we go to bastions of DJ culture big and small, and we’re liking what we’re seeing.

Indeed, Kick It’s foam party got a little wild and, yes, rather bubbly, but the parade of regional jocks—highlighted by America’s Best DJ nominee Annalyze—kept the bash moving with dubby grooves and enough scratching to keep the DJs in the house entertained. (Of course, with everyone showing up in swimwear, we felt oddly over-dressed in jeans-and-t-shirts.)

Thanks to Btz from Kick It Recordings and the Oasis crew for making it happen and, of course, big thanks to Annalyze for rocking the party as always. (If we could just do something about that cruel drive through Connecticut—what a death march.)

What’s next on the tour itinerary? Vegas, baby, and it’s gonna be a triple-threat weekend with a trio of ABDJ nominees. First off on Saturday, July 2, we hit Marquee Nightclub for an evening of Erick Morillo. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Erick play, but it’s usually very memorable—a night in Ibiza’s Pacha comes to mind—so we’re pretty psyched for that one.

Then, the very next afternoon, Sunday, July 3, it’s a pool party with trance titan Markus Schulz at beautiful Tao Beach. Last time we hit the venue, we caught some great vibes as Robbie Rivera played a double-bill with Germany jock ATB—we’re sure Markus will be on his game. There’s more? Yup. Sunday night, July 4, we get DJ Vice, one of America’s most versatile jocks, at Lavo. Hope we return to NYC in one piece.

And what’s next after Vegas? Camp Bisco in upstate New York, featuring Bassnectar, Wolfgang Gartner, Skrillex and TOKiMONSTA. Stay tuned.

As always, fans can vote at the events where we’ll maintain a dedicated voting booth (with free DJ Times mags) and also online at www.americasbestdj.net. One lucky fan will win a trip for two to Vegas’s Marquee Club for the America’s Best DJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony on October 1. Cast your ballot and take a chance—you could be a winner.
